Minor Threat - Complete Discography 1989

Complete Discography is a 1989 compilation album released by the American hardcore punk band Minor Threat on the band's own Dischord Records. As the name implies, it contains the band's entire discography at the time, including their three EPs, the Out of Step album and Flex Your Head compilation tracks. Some tracks were unreleased at the time and didn't appear on this compilation, but were later released. This includes the songs "Understand" and "Asshole Dub" from 20 Years of Dischord
The cover is very similar to that of Minor Threat, featuring the same photo of singer Ian MacKaye's younger brother, Alec MacKaye. The album was released with the cover in multiple colors, including red and green and a 2003 remastered version in blue and yellow.

HARDCORE/STRAIGHT EDGE INDONESIA?

Banyak yang salah kaprah tentang arti dari "HARDCORE" itu sendiri yang sering simpang siur dan dikaitkan dengan yang namanya "STRAIGHT EDGE", layaknya “Primitive of Human” akhir-akhir ini timbul lagi yang namanya "NEGATIVE HARDCORE" dan "POSITIVE HARDCORE" sehingga menjadi “GEP” bagi tingkat musikalitas yang harusnya berjalan bersama.

Apa sih “STRAIGHT EDGE”?? singkat saja, pada intinya istilah itu adalah dasar suatu metode yang diterapkan oleh para musisi di luar negeri untuk menjaga tubuh dari hal-hal yang berbau negatif, contoh : tidak merokok, tidak mabuk-mabukan, tidak free sex, tidak menggunakan zat psikotropika lainnya yang membahayakan tubuh, mengapa para musisi tersebut menyebutkan semboyan seperti itu? karena untuk melawan kebiasaan negatif dan mengembalikan image positif yang sebenarnya dari para musisi yang selalu identik dengan Drugs dan free sex. Setelah itulah mereka membuat genre dalam memberontak dengan keras hal yang berbau negatif, timbullah genre HARDCORE yang sekarang baru trend LAGI!!

Semboyan/istilah tersebut memang benar-benar dan sungguh-sungguh diterapkan oleh para musisi yang berkaitan tanpa menyimpang dan sudah menjadi pedoman hidup dari mereka.

Di Indonesia semboyan STRAIGHT EDGE sendiri terlihat sangat-sangat salah kaprah dan benar-benar disalah gunakan serta disalah artikan.

banyak musisi lokal kita yang menganggap dirinya STRAIGHT EDGE seolah-olah suci, tapi nyatanya semboyan atau bentuk ungkapannya tak sesuai dengan kenyataan, menggunakan coretan hitam ditangan mereka berlogokan huruf "X" tapi mereka tetap menghisap rokok yang mengandung racun nikotin, kemudian dibelakang perform mereka menenggak minuman keras bahkan ada yang sampai menggunakan zat psikotropika untuk menambah rasa percaya diri mereka (setahu gue sih Hardcore yang sesungguhnya itu cuek tanpa harus takut demam panggung).

dan ironisnya lagi, para musisi atau penikmat HARDCORE tanah air banyak yang tidak mengerti asal mula genre HARDCORE itu,sungguh kasihan..bermusik tanpa tahu dalam tentang genre yang mereka bawakan, hanya tahunya NEGATIVE itu musuhnya POSITIVE, hahahaha terbahak melihatnya..

Bermusik bukan untuk gontok-gontokan antara genre satu dengan yang lain, kalau kita tidak paham apa yang kita ributkan dan permasalahkan..musik untuk bersatu, musik yang menyatukan, hilangkan perbedaan!!!

APA SIH ARTI KATA "STRAIGHT EDGE" (xXx) ?

Pengertian Straight Edge
Straight Edge? Sebenernya Straight edge( sXe ) bisa dikatakan sebagai filosofi yang berkembang dan muncul dari komunitas hardcore, yang filosofinya sendiri diambil dari sebuah lagu yang diciptain sama band Minor Threat. Basicly, filosofi ini berisi tentang bagaimana cara kita untuk membuat hidup yang lebih baik, tentang self control. Menjadi sXe’s berarti menahan nafsu kita dari apa yang namanya alkohol, rokok, drugs dan freesex.
Lagu Out of Step (With The World) yang ditulis sama Ian MacKaye (vokalis band Minor Threat) dibuat untuk mengajak kita menjauhkan diri dari yang namanya nihilistic tendencies of punk rock, dengan memberikan sebuah pesan yang simpel, yaitu “don’t drink, don’t smoke, don’t fuck at least I can fuck thing”. Setelah dua belas tahun semenjak bubarnya band Minor Threat, suatu filosofi yang simpel ini berubah menjadi semacam the way of life bagi anak-anak muda yang ada di seluruh dunia.
Ditambah makin mengecewakannya keadaan sosial yang makin bobrok dari hari ke hari. Ngebuat semakin banyak aja remaja-remaja cowok maupun cewek yang memakai ajaran ini sebagai semacam sebuah blueprint bagi kemajuan dirinya sendiri, yang kemudian diterapin di lingkungan di mana mereka tinggal. Padahal sih sebenernya definisi awal sXe cuma menghindari apa yang disebutin di atas dan ditambah modern interpretation, salah satu contohnya menjadi seorang vegetarian.
PerkembangannyaSeperti yang udah kita tahu, sXe adalah sebuah filosofi yang tumbuh dan berkembang dari scene punkrock dan hardcore. Oleh karena itu aliran musik ini mempunyai influence yang penting dalam usaha perkembangan sXe. Bisa dibilang di permulaan tahun 80an tepatnya di kota Washington DC, band seperti The Teen Idles dan Minor Threat menjadi pelopor munculnya ratusan bahkan ribuan band-band straight edge yang nantinya makin menjamur. Nah di pertengahan tahun 80an band-band seperti Minor Threat, SSD, dan Uniform Choice mencapai puncak kejayaannya, terutama di kota metropolitan seperti kota New York. Atmosfir yang kayak ginilah, yang akhirnya melahirkan band-band macam Gorilla Biscuits, Bold, Wide Awake dan juga termasuk band yang paling dipertentangkan saat itu, yaitu Youth of Today.
The X signDi akhir tahun 80an di Amerika tepatnya, di setiap gig punk/hardcore yang digelar, udah jadi kebiasaan buat mereka para straight edgers nunjukin sebuah tanda “X” di tangannya. Maksudnya sih tanda ini mereka tunjukin biar mereka enggak bisa beli alkohol yang dijual disitu.Dalam perkembanganya, sebagai sebuah filosofi, sXe menjadi sesuatu yang populer saat itu. Apalagi dengan isu-isu positif yang dibawanya, menjadikan sXe sebagai sebuah ideologi. Satu contohnya, mereka yang sebenarnya umurnya udah ngelewati batas untuk bisa membeli alkohol (kalo disini 17 tahun, di amrik sih 21 tahun, trus kalo di UK 18 tahun) tapi enggak mau “minum” for ideological reason, mulai menandai tangannya dengan tanda X. Sekarang tanda X ini berkembang menjadi semacam nametag/id bagi straight edge kids. Simbol dari drug free ini kemudian dengan bangga diperlihatkan oleh anak-anak straight edge di baju dan berbagai atribut lain. Manfaat tanda ini terasa apabila mereka ingin mengenali satu sama lain. Dengan tanda X yang dipakainya kita dapat mengetahui bahwa ia adalah seorang sXe.

Beberapa band tetap dijalan ini, DYS bernyanyi “More than X’s on my hand / More than being in a Straight Edge band”, Insted menginspirasikan saya untuk memikirikan tanggung jawab saya kepada dunia, berteriak ““We’ll make the difference!”, Youth Of today menyemangati saya dalam memeriksa kembali prioritas saya dalam hidup dan “make a change” untuk memberi keuntungan kepada yang lain. Strife percaya bahwa kita bisa menjadi “Force of change” dan Bane bernyanyi “Reasons not rules” membuat kita kuat. Trial mengingatkan kita untuk memperhatikan/mengawasi pemerintah dan para tahanan politik, dengan menulis “you can’t kill an idea and we will not be ruled by fear”. Good Clean Fun melihat kemungkinan perubahan positif di dalam scene dalam “Today the scene, tomorrow the world”. Vitamin X menuntut kita
“See Thru Their Lies” dan “FIght Against” “the corporate rich” dan “Their Cruel Politics”. Limp Wrist menantang kita untuk tidak homophobia dan ketika Nueva Etica Declares “El Tiempo es Ahora” (waktunya adalah sekarang) Untuk menantang pemerintah dalam mendukung perdagangan narkoba. Dan untuk Have Heart straight edge adalah “Something More Than Ink” ketika Verse memberanikan diri untuk melawan apatisme dan “Set fire to this fucked up Empire”.

dengan ini sebagai soundtrack hidup saya, bagaimana saya dapat berpaling?

mungkin alasan terbesar saya masih berkomitmen pada straight edge adalah kepercayaan yang tidak bisa patah bahwa sxe adalah lebih dari musik, bahwa ini bisa menjadi kekuatan dalam perubahan. Saya percaya bahwa kekuatan sXe sebagai jembatan perubahan sosial, sebagai sebuah kesempatan untuk membuat lebih dan menyeimbangkan dunia. Beberapa mungkin menyebut saya Idealis, atau bahkan terlalu naif. Yakinlah, saya tidak dalam pengaruh ilusi bahwa para sXe Kids akan menjadi prajurit terdepan dari beberapa Revolusi terbesar. tapi saya tidak berpaling juga bahwa sXe dapat bertransformasi kepada tiap individu, scenes, dan komunitas.

Ketika saya memutuskan untuk mengklaim straight edge, saya tidak selalu mendengarkan Hardcore, untuk memakai pakaian berpesan khusus, mengkoleksi tato straight edge, untuk mendatangi gigs dua kali seminggu, menjadi brengsek,dan suka menghakimi. Straight Edge , pada dasarnya bukan terdiri dari hal itu. Kekurangan Straight Edge ada banyak, termasuk, Sexism, Machoism, dan premanisme; Pergerakan ini memiliki jalan yang masih panjang untuk terus hidup pada potensial sebenarnya. dari semua kontradiksi tersebut, sXe telah menginspirasikan sepuluh ribu anak untuk hidup positif dan saya, untuk satu, tidak pernah menyesali bahwa keputusan ini sudah saya buat begitu lama
